Since the swearing in of Thomas Jefferson in 1801, Washington, DC has played host to the time-honored tradition of the presidential inauguration. Inauguration is held every four years and symbolizes the peaceful transfer of power as the elected president takes their oath of office from the steps of the Capitol.
Since 1925, The Mayflower Hotel has played host to presidential inaugural events from the swearing in of President Calvin Coolidge through President Ronald Reagan, cementing our hotel as the place to see and be seen.
Our centrally located downtown hotel is just steps away from the National Mall, monuments and all that our historic city has to offer. From balls and galas to the oath of office taken on Monday, January 20th at noon, your stay at The Mayflower for this historic occasion is guaranteed to be exactly like nothing else.

When The Mayflower hotel opened its doors in 1925, the first social event took place on March 4th: The Inaugural ball of President Calvin Coolidge.
As we enter our 100th year, we are offering guests the opportunity to explore our Curated Legacy Suite while on property for the 2025 inauguration. Your suite will be curated with items that tell the story of our iconic hotel. From notes from famous guests to hotel ephemera, you and your guest will be surrounded by the rich history of The Mayflower and the city that we have called home for 100 years.
The Curated Legacy Suite package includes:
- Three nights in the Legacy Suite, inspired by The Mayflower Hotel’s history as the “home away from home” for presidents, including a library of books written by some of the hotel’s most famous guests of the past 100 years and many of the décor items that played a role in the hotel’s history.
- Private curated three course in-suite dinner for two
- Nightly keepsake inauguration amenities
- Round trip black car airport transportation
